Gold, Silver or Bronze Mindset

Let's be honest, there is no getting away from the fact that this is the summer of sport: we are loving the Olympics now at The Lead Generation Group Ltd and Team GB are getting a bucket full of medals, of all colours and across all disciplines.

As I listen to the athletes being interviewed and watch them perform, they all have focus, determination and an end goal in sight, and it makes me think that those of us in business are very much in the same mindset. We may not get a lovely medal, with a bit of the Eifel Tower inside of it, but we all set our own standards. We aim for a gold standard in everything we do, but like the majority of the elite athletes, it takes years of hard work, a vision and sacrifice.

The thing that strikes me most is that even if someone wins a bronze medal, they celebrate their achievement because when things are put in perspective, they are still the third best in the world! People have been making comparisons with the England football team, many of whom took off their silver medals after losing the European final. Are they missing the point? Do they need to learn some lessons from their athletics counterparts? Every grass roots football team wants to be in the Premiership, every player wants to be Lionel Messi – of course they won't all make it, but they would give anything to have played in a cup final and come second in front of the rest of the world.

Money is always a great help in getting us where we want to be, but mindset and grit and determination is a priceless thing to have as well and that can lead to immense riches.

Thinking of all the thousands of athletes that have descended on Paris we may not have heard of the majority of them, but each and every one is there on their merit. Countries such as St. Lucia are now gold and silver medal holders because of one woman's achievements. Nothing is impossible, but everything is possible.
