I’m Not A Robot, I'm A Grown Up

Technology is a wonderful thing – fact.

Our lives are made so much easier with the invention of the internet. Business is now fast, efficient and far-reaching. We all have a global window for our services.

And we are all used to ticking that little box at the end of most forms of registration confirming that we are not robots.

This week I had a meeting scheduled and received the automated response to add this into my calendar - which is great because it saves me time and effort. Boom! It’s in the diary and I only had to press a button.

But then the robots took over. . . (cue sinister music!)

Every day from registration, for about three days, I kept getting an email reminder that my appointment was coming up: “Hey, don’t forget your meeting in three days, two days, one day, half a day, a couple of hours, ONE HOUR, ONE FILIPPING MINUTE!!! Your meeting is starting NOW!!!

Now, I don’t mind admitting that I’m not in the first flush of youth, but really? As a grown-up and a responsible business owner – something I’ve become very good at over the years, I’m in the habit of looking at my diary every day. I know what’s planned for each day and each week. I don’t need a robot to keep reminding me, because I’m a grown-up and I can do these things for myself, allegedly.

Of course we want to make sure we don’t miss important meetings, networking events, webinars, conference calls and all those things that modern technology allows us to use in order to keep more order in our busy working lives.

However, sometimes it can also be annoying to be sent so many reminders when the Bots take over.

The thing about robots is that they have no filter – they are programmed to keep on going and going - and that’s great if you have one to do the vacuuming every day, but sometimes this can be a disadvantage when you are bombarded with email after email after email; it can have the reverse effect and turn people completely off of using your services. Remember, you are a grown-up.

One thing we definitely pride ourselves on at the LG Group is our interaction with you – all of our human contacts. We can work alongside the techno bots as well, but for the really important stuff, like looking after your sales and marketing strategy, we employ real humans so you have a real voice to speak to, to talk over any concerns or simply just to have a good old-fashioned conversation with us.
