Off Piste
As you know, here at The LG Group, we are high octane, high energy sales, marketing, telesales, cold calling, hot calling and constantly keeping the wheels of business turning. Phew! In other words, we are busy, busy, busy!
All of our clients are the same, so what do you do when one or more of the wheels gets stuck and is struggling to turn? We all have those days when our energy levels drop.
As we leave January behind – dry or otherwise, and start another brand new month, how to ensure that your energy levels stay where you need them to be? This is why we are going off piste for this week's blog, because we want to focus on YOU TIME. We all need a bit of time purely for ourselves and often we don't always know when that need will strike.
For example, what if you have a really bad night's sleep but you know the next day is full of meetings or appointments – how do you make sure you keep those appointments as well as take a bit of time for yourself? No matter how busy we are there are always five, ten, fifteen minutes or even thirty or forty minutes, that you can find in your day. Take that time to simply stop. This is The LG Group guide to taking time out:–
- Five minutes is enough to just move away from your desk and have a quick stretch
- Ten minutes is time to make a drink and rest your eyes away from your computer
- Fifteen minutes is a quick stroll around the block to get some fresh air
- Thirty minutes is a hot drink AND a sandwich.
- A whole sixty minutes is to move away from your desk, make a drink, eat something, have a proper walk and stretch out those aching limbs!
Some people are lucky enough to be able to grab a "power nap" – the rest of us, especially us lot at The Lead Generation Group Ltd, would worry that we'd forget to wake up in time to get back to work!
At the moment those of us who run our businesses are not machines – that day may come but probably not in my life time. As human beings our bodies are the best indicators of how we are functioning, as long as we listen to them when they are trying to tell us to slow down a little and take some rest.
When I was thinking about the title for this blog, piste came to mind because those experienced skiers like to test their metal away from the normal ski runs. However, I looked up the definition of "piste": a ski run of compacted snow [French, literally "racetrack"]. How apt because life often feels like we are on a racetrack and we are so hemmed in by work, family, commitments, etc., that we struggle to break free from the rat race. We need to allow ourselves to get off the track from time to time and just stop for a breather. . .
