The Extra Mile
We are know that phrase 'going the extra mile' and here at The LG Group we like to think that's exactly what we do!
But what does it mean? Taking longer to get to your destination by adding another mile to your journey, or are we just talking in the literal sense: 'Going the extra mile' just for the sake of it?
As you know our biggest bread and butter clients are in the transport and logistics industry so it's a phrase that often means they do exactly that for their customers, especially when embarking on a journey by road these days doesn't guarantee you will go directly from A to B. Diversions, road works, accidents, the weather – they all mean extra miles on the journey.
However, even if circumstances dictate you have to travel that 'extra mile' you still do it to make sure you deliver the goods to your clients. But what about those of us who are not on a physical journey, but still go 'the extra mile?'
Consciously or unconsciously we have all undertaken that extra bit of work to make sure we are delivering the best service possible for our customers – it could be something as simple as staying on a call for a few minutes longer than necessary because the person on the other end is having a bad day that's nothing to do with their business: It might mean that the dog walker is making an additional visit to your dog because you are delayed, or it just might mean something as simple as a smile. We at The Lead Generation Group Ltd like to think we are always going 'the extra mile' in all of our daily dealings. Even when we are cold calling on behalf of a client, we can easily do a bit more than just plug our customer's business because we don't use a script; in this day and age when call centres insist on their staff sticking to the script, by not having the words said verbatim, is automatically going that bit extra to make the person on the other end of the phone feel special.
I heard this week of an acquaintance who has just started working for Veterans in Logistics – a charity that helps ex-military personnel stay out of prison, keeps them away from drugs and alcohol, prevents homelessness and helps get them into work. As an ex-military man myself I know the challenges that people face when they leave the service. Yes, my acquaintance is collecting money but it's the manner in which it's done that makes the difference. Yes she has to repeat certain words and phrases to make it clear what she is doing, but also engaging with people and listening to their stories and experiences makes them feel special – if only for a few moments in their day.
Our aim at The Lead Generation Group Ltd is to make everyone of our customers and potential customers feel special, so a detour every now an again is definitely NOT an inconvenience to us!
