You Don’t Have to Win Every Battle to Win the War
As many of the regular readers of this blog know, I used to be in the military, so this month is a particularly poignant time for me as we remember what happened on the Falkland Islands forty years ago.
I have been watching the various documentaries detailing the campaign strategies used to re-capture the Islands: Much of this information has been classified for decades so is now only just coming to light. One particular story was that of the Marine Regiment, known as (Navel Party) NP- 8901, who were stationed at Stanley when the invasion came. Around 70 men against 700 and, as a result of being so outnumbered, they were ordered to lay down their weapons. The press had a field day calling the action “surrender”. We would call it the preservation of life. What the press didn’t report was the fact that the marines and civilians, on the Island at that time, did not suffer any loss of life and that every single marine volunteered to return to the Falkland Islands as part of the greater Task Force. Subsequently, they spent three weeks yomping across the Island, in the most appalling conditions, to Goose Green to be part of the successful re-taking of the Islands.
Now, you might be wondering what this has to do with running your business, or the service we offer to you to ensure your marketing strategy is the right one for your particular needs.
A business strategy is similar to a military strategy. You have certain information, resources and personnel to hand, and that’s what you build your strategy around. However, sometimes things change; personnel changes, finances change and the direction of your business changes and, therefore, so does your strategy.
Like NP-8091 Marines, you may have to call time on a certain course of action, but that doesn’t mean you have failed or are defeated. It means you have had to let go of something that isn’t working and go away, re-group and come back fighting, still with the end result in your sights.
We understand business frustrations at the LG Group. Like every business, we too have had our share of having to change course or use different strategies to get us to the end result we are aiming for. And we are adapted at doing this for your business.
We know it is imperative for your business to succeed, therefore, we are ready to make the necessary changes to the original course you had already set to achieve your end result. We know how to market, we know how to adapt and we know how to keep you on course for your next big victory.
In logistics especially, there will always be something to scupper the original plan or destination. A diversion, but when we work with companies we build in a contingency plan within the marketing strategy, just like you do in your business plan.
Sometimes, with the best will in the world, the best military brains and the bravest of men and women, it is not always possible to gain victory at the first attempt. What matters is being able to accept something has not gone to plan, step back, re-assess and then come back stronger, braver and more prepared. At the Lead Generation Group, we will always have your back, no matter what life throws at you.
